On March 4th, 2022 the Convoy to Freedom will be coming through Juneau County. The Convoy, which is starting out in a couple different, places will be merging on I90/94 in Oakdale around 3pm. Their plan is to stop in Oakdale, WI for about 30 minutes to have a meet and greet and pickup donations that people may have for their Journey to Washington DC. Once they leave Oakdale they will be travelling East on I90/94 and stopping in Portage for the Night at the Petro Truckstop. Representatives of the convoy are hoping to get the message out there for people to be at the overpasses along the route in Juneau County and beyond who want to show their support with signs, banners, waving and just showing their excitement and support for their movement.
The convoy planned however is said to not just be for semi trucks, they encourage everyone who would like to join the convoy even if it’s just a short ways whether it be in a car, truck, van, bus, motorcycle or any other legal vehicle to be on the interstate to join.
The Convoy Protest stems from the recent debacle in Ottawa, Canada where truckers staged to protest Vaccine Mandates for Truck Drivers. The protest in Ottawa led to the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to invoke the Emergencies Act which many called a dictator move given the broad sweeping powers it supposedly gave the government to seize bank accounts among other things.
After stopping for the night in Portage, where it is said there will be food tents available and donation drop off sites, they will leave in the morning to continue on to Washington DC. They are asking for anyone who would like to show their support to be at one of the many overpasses that are safe to do so. Their hope is to fill the overpasses with supporters.
